Webber’s Political Hack Capitalizes on Local Politics
Mayor Alan Webber’s extensive backing of City Council candidates has long been a matter of concern, but the full scope of his influence has only recently been revealed. SWEL, owned and operated by Sandra Weschler (Alan Webber’s campaign manager), has been paid a staggering ONE HUNDRED AND TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS during this election cycle, courtesy of candidates sponsored by Webber and affiliated PACs.
Weschler first gained notoriety through the questionable use of the “Me Too” movement, exploiting unfounded sexual harassment allegations to target male politicians. It’s worth noting that none of these accusers were willing to testify under oath when called to appear before ethics boards.
Weschler has consistently interfered in Santa Fe’s political sphere and has significantly contributed to the election of the administration that has caused turmoil in our city. She was even quoted advocating against the city’s public campaign funding option, prioritizing her own wealth over the well-being of Santa Fe residents.
In a more recent instance, she orchestrated an attack by Phil Lucero on incumbent councilor Michael Garcia for his abstentions on votes related to poorly conceived policies.
Geno Zamora, Phil Lucero, Pilar Faulkner, and Jamie Cassutt now appear to be attempting to distance themselves from the Webber Cartel. However, they continue to accept support from Webber, Weschler, and their cohorts even as the election date approaches. It’s important to note that Jamie Cassutt may not have directly hired Weschler for her campaign this time, but the PAC run by Weschler is supporting her “Robin Hood” housing tax proposal and has provided significant assistance. If these candidates genuinely wished to break free from Webber’s influence, they would have declined his support. In typical politician fashion, they say one thing while doing another.
Here’s a breakdown on how much each candidate and PAC has paid Weschler:
