Santa Fe Mayor sticks his nose where it doesn’t belong again
Mayor Alan M. Webber is setting his sights on a Constitutional Amendment that he has no power or authority to do so……
Here are a few things Santa Fe residents wish Alan M. Webber set his sights on:
Bridges that don’t collapse
Wastewater Treatment Plants that work
Audits completed on time
An HR Department that knows what it’s doing
Parks not littered with needles
A reduction in violent crime
Police that show up to crime scenes in a timely manner
Roads without potholes
Rec centers that don’t have broken equipment
A city manager that isn’t an inexperienced and incompetent moron
An assistant city manager that had at least one day of experience before working for the city
A plan to deal with the problems being caused by the homeless population
Senior centers where seniors are treated with respect
Alan M. Webber – get a damned clue. Do your job or resign.
• Unnecessary. Local governments already have the right to regulate guns. Read your history. We need to regulate the corrupt (un)supreme court. Besides that, anything webber touches is a disaster.
• Affordable housing does not exist in Santa Fe. Homelessness is out of control. Drug use/abuse is leading to out-of-control crime. Streets need maintenance. Years after the purchase of the mid-town campus, next to nothing has been done. Parks are a mess. City audits are late. City staff hiding documents from counselors and the public they serve. Before you want to regulate me from being able to defend myself and my family, or participate in sports shooting events, get you own house in order. It is obvious you can’t do anything of significance successfully.
• With all the guns in this state, both legally and illegally owned, how on earth are you going to enforce it? And what’s to stop a gun toting person from another state coming here? It’s too late for an insanely fearful and mentally ill society.
• It’s a distraction from the real problems that plague our city.. drugs, homelessness, crime, park maintenance, SCHOOLS (50th in the nation), less than acceptable healthcare, streets/sidewalks/bridges falling apart…. What BS!
• The biggest problem with this administration is that they are always trying to make a national name for themselves….What about basics? Sidewalks, streets, libraries, rec centers, aid to the homeless? The city has time to go after national recognition, that but all they do is jerk people around about solutions. I have requested a lower LED light on my street for a year. Regina Wheeler about a month ago finally said they city would pay PNM to replace them–oh but she forgot when she had to put it in writing–they won’t have any money for two months for this project touted TWO years ago….And Webber and McSherry wonder why the people don’t consider the city transparent? LOL
• Yes, I’m frustrated. Frustrated that politicians are ignorant of our US Constitution, inclusive of the 2A and how the current SCOTUS has judged what it means – it means Webber’s desired initiative is unconstitutional. His action is theater and a waste of money and time.
• A Dictator, such as Webber, of course want to disarm the public, because he controls the police. Like the Trifecta, which “dictates” in our state, barred guns from the Round House. It makes them nervous to have those they oppress bearing arms. I notice MLG is now getting Increased Security because the people are getting restless under her destructive regime. We really should give her Less Security, until she corrects her course. In a Democracy those who govern shouldn’t fear the people. She does. There’s a lesson there somewhere. I’m for restoring “Open Carry” at the Round House. If the Trifecta is “agin” it, I’m for it.
• Didn’t Webber swear to uphold and defend the constitution? This Kabuki theater must stop NOW!!
• Can this Mayor and Wirth bring anymore division to our city? Maybe another distraction to their failures? This Issue is very clear to be a federal issue with a few changes at the state level! This city has a lot on its plate.
• I sent an email to the Mayor, my councilor, and my representative suggesting that this idea is as divisive as those efforts in some red cities and counties to slap down women’s rights, including abortion and health care. Let’s just say the response was not encouraging. So I expect this to probably be sponsored and we will see how the Legislature votes and if that passes, how the public votes as the NM constitution can be amended by a simple majority. The problem with something like this is that there are no goalposts, as each municipality can uproot their own and move them. I would have had second thoughts about moving to Santa Fe if we didn’t have preemption, as I could wake up one day and be a potential criminal for something I have safely, legally, and responsibly done all my life (see Boulder, CO). Besides, one can simply set up Joe’s BBQ, Beer, and Assault Rifle shop at the other side of the county line in jurisdiction A and saunter across with a prohibited item into jurisdiction B. Reena is right–we need statewide uniformity. Lucky me. I am retired. Like those women voting with their feet from areas that attack them, I too can move if I have to, if only to register my protest against God knows what these folks will come up with if allowed. Boulder, CO, I think was a hotbed of litigation. Of course every time some lunatic or terrorist shoots up a bowling alley, theatre, or school, there is yet more reason to ban guns since we can’t ever seem to weed out the bad actor needles from the irrelevant haystack of gun owners who are innocuous. This will not end well.
• Does this really fit into the list of mayoral duties and responsibilities? Webber needs to stick to concentrating on his job description and what precisely it entails.
• No matter on which side of the gun control debate you stand, this is ineffective, divisive virtue-signaling. Local ordinances on state-wide or national issues just create black markets and shift the targeted problems elsewhere nearby. They accomplish nothing other than showing one’s disdain for the other side and dividing us more. This applies to more than just gun control.
• Let’s just pretend for a minute that he can pull this off. Dear Mayor, do you have a police force, or other regulators in place to enforce anything? No, the city is not capable at present to manage the present issues in the city! It’s a mess!! Basics first, only then should you start some other projects!!!
• It’s a fools errand but they will go for it. Waste of time energy and money that will accomplish absolutely nothing.
• The joke here is that Webber can’t even fill the numerous vacancies in the SF police force. Seems that this administration is happy to implement new laws yet fumbles when it comes to finding people to enforce them. Of course, the irony is that gun rights are meant to allow the average citizen self-protection. How are we supposed to protect ourselves if the only people with weapons are the ones that continue to acquire the illegally?
