ANOTHER BACKROOM DEAL
Another rumor making its rounds in City Hall over the past month is that Mayor Alan Webber is changing the city logo and removing the phrase ‘La Villa Real etc.’ from the logo without Public comment or City Council approval.
City Manager John Blair allegedly has directed Staff to deny that the city logo is being re-branded, although several Staffers have been involved in the effort.
Allegedly, the logo’s new colors will be orange and black which Webber believes better represents Santa Fe.
Part of the rumor is that Webber wants this change done gradually. The two photos are the current City logo and the online, stripped down logo that Blair is allegedly having rolled out gradually.
This is an important enough topic that Mayor Webber should get public input on.
- “The ultimate goal of brand standardization is to build trust and foster confidence in city government, according to the new style guide.” I think my wife will have to call 911 to have me resuscitated after I finish laughing myself nearly to death.
- Enough erasure! How much more does the administration expect Santa Feans to endure? The rationale and explanation: bizarre. The action without a vote: tone deaf. The cost and effort behind this: mindboggling given the real needs of this city.
- My words for the Communications team: disheatening, demoralizing, & dispiriting.
- How does this reflect a love and respect for Santa Fe? Please roll back this nonsensical initiative.
- Great. Now maybe replace Webber’s box in the Plaza and start clearing snow off the roads with no public complaints about how hard it is. Most jobs are hard.
- As a local, born and raised Hispanic, this is the biggest sucker punch from the Mayor to the Hispanic community and you have dictated many, and disrespect to the City of Santa Fe as a whole! How dare you Mayor Webber and Director Beggans!! Little by little you have insulted and attacked us in attempts to destroy our culture and our history. You looking for another lawsuit? Well, get ready. This recent move of yours wreaks of racism and harassment! I have never seen anyone so filled with hate for people who built this city! And trying to sell it as “building consistency” is just dumb. How’s that for your consistency? See you in Court!
- It has been Webbers racist agenda since he moved here to get rid of the Hispanic culture, it is also on the city council for sitting back in silence. But it is also the fault of the locals for not showing up and voting these outsiders out and replacing them with people that understand and respects the culture, silence on their part is doing as much damage as Webber and his puppets.
- Amazing what this city wastes time and money on.
- Maybe they can plaster the logo on the Plaza plywood box.
- Wow we have our own dictator with a D in front right here Santa Fe! Where was the council on this? How is this going to better the citizens lives? Mayor Dictator Webber go away already!!
- If he was a dictator something would have gotten done. He’s a marketing guy. He gets booed when he shows up so he’s going to rebrand Santa Fe. Putts (sic), not dictator.
- “The ultimate goal of brand standardization is to build trust and foster confidence in city government, according to the new style guide.” Really? I was thinking that completing city audits in a timely manner is a better way to build “trust and confidence.”
- Maybe now the financial audits will be done on time
- Oh for crying out loud. This is asinine, and far worse than a mere waste of money. Ms. Romero and other commenters I see at this time are basically right, in my view. There is an agenda here, conscious or unconscious. (It doesn’t matter and will forever remain mysterious whether the Mayor is consciously doing this, or is simply clueless about the gravity and impact of his disrespectful actions.) It is important to clarify that the problem is not race-based. This is about clearing away what is perceived, consciously or not, as cultural “dead wood,” to free up the City’s identity. The authors of these changes don’t want “A City Different.” They want “A City Marketable.” They want to clear away anything that — and anybody who — doesn’t sing that song. They don’t want a City with a soul. It’s about the scramble for Money, with a capital M because Money is the new god. The inauthentic concern for the emotions of native peoples is just a convenient cover. It should be plain to see for everybody, Christian, Buddhist, Humanist, or whatever, that the omission of “The Royal City of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi” is a dramatic change, going far beyond style to the substance — to the bones of Santa Fe’s identity. Ms. Romero is right — this is the worst thing yet. What is wrong with this administration?
- Folks, these Marxists won’t stop until you stop them.
- Sadly, Webber doesn’t learn from his mistakes. His policy, management, and implementation failures as Mayor are legendary. People on the street are calling him the worst mayor in Santa Fe’s history. Instead of running a participatory city government he buys support through city council elections and provides special favors for his wealthy supporters, all while waving a flag of social justice. Changing our city logo without public input is yet another example of a very foolish man who holds the title of Mayor and fraudulently believes he has a moral high ground to make dictatorial decisions when holding office in a democracy.
- Discarded shopping carts and syringes in front of the box on the Plaza would be an appropriate symbol.
- Building trust and confidence does not a Logo accomplish. Webber doesn’t get it. He’s never had it. He will never have it. He doesn’t want it. I worked with him for 4 years. He respects no one and only cares about himself. He is a very deranged man and always acted like and performed like Trump.
- This will not please Red Nation, Three Sisters, etc., no symbols for Indigenous people or stolen land.
- “The ultimate goal of brand standardization is to build trust and foster confidence in city government, according to the new style guide.” Ummm, Seals don’t build trust and foster confidence. Only people and actions can do that.
- Shared Account this is Ronald S. Trujillo posting – Once again the RACIST MAYOR and his MINIONS take aim at the HISPANIC CULTURE. Why is Webber so set on erasing any reference to HISPANIC CULTURAL here in Santa Fe? The sacred words that adorn the City Seal “LA VILLA REAL DE LA SANTA FE DE SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS” are there for a reason to just erase them and as Alan and his Administration have done to so many other sacred items here in Santa Fe shows that Alan does not like the Hispanic People, Culture, Traditions and History, but for those of you who voted for this Mini Trump you’re to blame for the state Santa Fe is in. Alan has done nothing but create hostility amongst cultures all in his quest to erase Santa Fe’s HISPANIC History. So sad that someone who said he cared and respected Santa Fe has made it his goal to make Santa Fe into a City that DISRESPECTS HISPANICS. This Mayor and his Administration need to focus on BASIC CITY SERVICES and getting Audits done and sent to the State Auditor within the alloted timeline so that funding will not be withheld due to the incompetence of this Mayor and those he hired to run these departments that show daily their incompetence to do their jobs. Unfortunately this Mayor will be allowed to do as he pleases because he has the support of a majority of the current City Council Lindel, Cassaut, Romero-Wirth, Chavez and with Webbers vote its a RUBBER STAMP that allows this Mayor to do what he pleases. to quote the late CHARLIE “THE GREEK” GRIEGO “WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE SANTA FE” As I mentioned earlier those of you who voted this Mini Trump into office I hope you’re happy with your decision as those of us who have called Santa Fe Home for all our lives can honestly say we have never seen our once proud city and it’s government look and act so bad. 😢
